How To Safely Tie your Horse using the Mecate Rein
First, with the reins over the horses head, make an X with your reins, and then bring that loop back over your horses head, so that the reins are now doubled over his neck.
This is how your reins should look- four equal lengths, and then the lead portion of your rope is pictured on the left-
Take that tail end and half hitch it around the reins, by bringing it up behind and then back thru itself-
Pull snug, and you now have a way to safely tie your horse with the lead rope portion of your mecate. If your horse pulls, he will put pressure on the reins around his neck, NOT on the bit or his mouth.
